Native to Winter Park, Fl these guy’s have taken a chance on their sound, really a variation genre all its own. Their rock style can best be describe in a statement by the band “The collective entity that is The Groove Orient does not want you to change who you are. We simply want to come together and celebrate the officious sound.”
Since the officially announcement of the bands debut EP, ‘Welcome To The Show’, expected early 2014, the band has announced they will be hitting the road for their Spring Break Tour from February 28- March 9. Meanwhile we caught up with guy’s for a little back story and where they’re headed musically:
Can you tell us about your band name?
The Groove is a pulse. The rhythmic medium in which our thoughts become your heart beat, a law that governs the movements of your body. We want to adjust our audience to new styles of groove of the highest quality. The Orientation of the Groove yields to the subconscious, takes you on a musical journey, or more simply put, makes you get on down.
How long have you been performing as a band?
The Groove Orient has been steadily performing for the past 5 months around the state of Florida. Even though TGO’s first show was last April at WPRK’s Fox Fest 2013, the band took a 4 month hiatus that was dedicated to a rigorous rehearsing schedule.
What has really influenced your music the most?
All members of The Groove Orient studied music performance at Rollins College and have not just devoted their college experiences towards expanding their craft, but have set a foundation for the rest of their lives as professional musicians. Under the instruction of Central Florida’s top musicians, such as Bobby Koelble, Chuck Archard, and Danny Gottlieb, the band members were involved in a variety of ensembles with styles ranging from bluegrass, jazz, choir and orchestral music. Each individual in the band brings an original sound to both the compositional and performance processes, with influences like The Allman Brothers, Deep Purple, Black Crowes, Santana, Rage Against the Machine, and James Brown.
Describe your sound in two words
Do any of you have a crazy /dramatic show experience?
Every performance is more psychotic then the last. Constantly pushing the boundaries The Groove Orient is guaranteed to make your mind melt.
Who writes the Lyrics, is it a group effort?
Each member of The Groove Orient brings their own individual songs to the set list. “All of us really enjoy composing and together we really compliment each others musical desires.
Besides social media, and flyers do you practice any unique methods
of promoting upcoming shows?
In addition to our promotions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and flyers we really try to emphasize free stickers and posters. We have found that text messages, Snapchats, and individual Facebook messages and emails also gets the word out. But of course word of mouth is always the most beneficial advertisement method.
